Novosibirsk Museum of Arts is housing a photo exhibition titled “On the Sunny Side” commemorating the 25th anniversary of Uzbekistan’s independence. The organizers of the exhibition are the General Consulate of Uzbekistan in Novosibirsk (Russia), the Fund Forum Representative Office and Jahon News Agency.

On August 25, the chairperson of Mehr Nuri Foundation’s Public Council, Professor Gulnara Karimova, cut the ribbon to inaugurate a newly reconstructed children’s hospital No 5 in Tashkent. One of the goals given to the Foundation is the reconstruction of major medical facilities across Uzbekistan. The in-patient hospital which has been given a complete facelift provides medical care for all newborns in Tashkent as well as children under 3.

A press conference at the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan on August 18 focused on the upcoming 6th Tashkent International Biennale of Contemporary Art to be held on October 23-29 as part of the annual “Style.Uz” Art Week. The organizers – the Fund Forum, the Academy of Arts and the Ministry of Culture and Sports of Uzbekistan – have dubbed the upcoming event “Contemporary Art: Artist’s Space and Society”.

On August 22-23, an international archeological conference titled “The History and Culture of Bukhara Oasis in Antiquity and the Middle Ages” will be held in Bukhara to mark thirty years since the start of the archeological expedition at Paikend, a Bukhara suburb, as well as the 20th independence anniversary of Uzbekistan.

The Youth Creativity Palace on August 22 will host a presentation of a photo album, a major publishing project overseen by the Fund Forum. Titled “Fund Forum presents Uzbekistan”, the photo album is a major international project which involved photographers, designers and art professionals from France, Italy and Uzbekistan. The trilingual work, which took three years to complete, will be presented to the broad public in Tashkent. The presentation of the book will also be held in Austria, China, France Germany, Italy, Japan, Russia, Spain and Switzerland.

As the results of nationwide university exams held on August 2 have been declared, many would-be students find themselves unable to afford the tuition fee. For those who cannot afford the cost of learning at a higher educational institution, the Fund Forum and Mehr nuri Foundation announce the start of the annual Educational Grants Program for 2011. Applications are accepted by “Mehr nuri” Foundation from August 20 to September 5, 2011.

A photo exhibition dedicated to Uzbekistan`s 20th independence anniversary has opened its doors in New York City. Organized by the Fund Forum Representative Office in the USA, the General Consulate of Uzbekistan in New York and the Bukharian Jewish Congress, the exhibition features colorful photos by artist R. Iskhakov reflecting Uzbekistan`s unique nature and historical and cultural legacy as well as its development over the years of independence.

A miscellany of exquisitely carved wooden items is on display at the Center of National Arts in Tashkent. Titled “The Tree of Eternity”, the exhibition features over 200 pieces created by 15 masters of Ortiq Fayzullayev`s School of Art in Tashkent and is dedicated to Uzbekistan`s 20th independence anniversary.

The Fund Forum, which in 2010 was granted Special Consultative Status with the UN Economic and Social Council, participated in a high-level meeting on youth convened by the General Assembly on July 25 and 26, 2011 to discuss a wide range of issues of concern to the younger generation.
